Taking the Temperature of Our Times
This picture was taken with a phone camera. Can you guess the location? It’s on the balcony of a little house about a 90-minute drive from Stockholm.
What does the picture say?
Most people would say 55 degrees Celsius. People in the exceptional country would consult their converter and say 122 degrees Fahrenheit. Others would simply say,
”We’re fucked!”
They would all be right. And wrong. As all the people who comment about global warming. Global warming is a euphemism. It’s a question of environmental fever. The earth has a fever. Unlike fever in individuals, the earth won’t die if the fever increases, but a major portion of life on earth will, humanity definitely included. And not only is the fever increasing, all indications suggest that we are on the curve of an exponential development, that is to say, it’s going to get a lot worse a lot quicker.
Can anything be done? Yes. Will anything be done? Probably not enough, but what choice do we have? We either try or die. We can start by putting aside our superficial differences which keep us from uniting and acting as humans. That’s the first step without which we may as well follow Sally Snowflake to the shopping center and buy a suitable wardrobe to arrive in fashion when we get to hell.

There probably won’t be one.”
