Church and Crown in a New Town

Church&Crown_4382

The shopping center has replaced the church
at the center of town.
So we worship the market,
pledge allegiance to the holiness of money
and live in servitude to the financial royalty.
We wear the cross of democracy around our necks.
Mindlessly.
Pretending to forget that it died
because of our sins.

“I’ve never understood the custom of having a royal family represent a democracy.”
Dartwill Aquila
