Nano-technological Alchemy = Green Gold

Russian scientists have manipulated the genes of ferns (Chamaebatiaria millefolium) to produce gold atoms. The quality and extent of the gold is far too meager to justify commercial use, but the scientists are convinced that improvements in the process will eventually allow them to harvest gold.
The discovery occur by accident when combining chlorophyl proteins with the periostracum proteins that snails use to built their shells. Instead of blending, the magnesium from the chlorophyl added its electrons to triangular chisel-crystals in periostracum and produced a gold atom.
Researches throughout the world have reacted with skepticism. In light, or should we say shadow, of the international monetary turbulence, the Russian government supports the project with practically unlimited resources. Should the project succeed, the investment will weigh lightly.
The international community may express doubts, but after years of climbing, the trade volume and price of gold dropped after the announcement of the golden ferns.
