Jesus’ Sister Has Cancer

Gate&Roses3_1626
Prophets, heroes and champions of the people appear everywhere at all times. In Biblical times they were referred to as sons and daughters of God, a common metaphorical term of respect. Jesus was praised as THE son of God instead of A son of God because of the exceptional quality of his teachings.

Lynne Stewart must be a sister of Jesus because the (metaphorical) title A daughter of God fits so comfortably on her person. She has spent a lifetime fighting for and defending the poor, the suppressed, the discriminated and the downtrodden. Despite her professional training as a lawyer she never abandoned the trenches in the battles for justice.

Like her brother, she is being crucified by rulers who want her out of the way. 73 years old and cancer ridden, she is chained to her bed in a prison in Texas far from her family and friends. Her crime? The formal reason was that she improperly represented a prisoner. A prisoner who the rulers didn’t want represented. The informal reason was her clear, eloquent and bitter criticism of the rulers.

Or, in Lynne’s words:

We have in Washington a poisonous government that spreads its venom to the body politic in all corners of the globe. There is a consummate evil that unleashes its dogs of war on the helpless. Our enemy is motivated only by insatiable greed, with no thought of other consequences. In this enemy there is no love of the land or the creatures that live there, no compassion for the people, no thought of future generations. This enemy will destroy the air we breathe and the water we drink as long as the dollars keep filling up their money-boxes…

You can protest Lynne’s treatment and imprisonment here.
