Rocks of Ages
A rock pile upon the earth
prevents light
holds back warmth
and seems to bury life.
Specks of life attack the rocks
to nourish themselves on bits of minerals.
Seeds, hairs, feathes and spillings
along with particles of leaves, bark, twigs and shells
explore the cracks and gather in the available spaces.
They attract many forms of crawling and scurrying life
that break down the particles
and prepare the way for sprouts and roots.
Nature’s landscaping promotes life on every surface.
The rocks that tried to bury life
will soon be buried by life.
“They throw rocks at us and tax us for possessing rocks.”
