Talking About Human Talking

Stilben8490

A human is a talking creature.
No other form of life owns a language.
There are signal systems,
some quite extensive,
but no language.
This defining trait of the Homo sapiens
—as distinctive as wings for a bird—
finds expression in almost every aspect of human existence.
Birds fly. Humans talk.
The human brain processes language
and allows humans to access their thoughts.
This confuses them.
They call this a consciousness, an awareness.
Like an intellectual tree growing out of their heads
it contains fantasies, ideas, beliefs, hopes
and swamps of superstition.
It’s just language reflecting thoughts.
They stare at the light they have made
and arrogantly praise their own awareness
unaware that they are a unique
language-endowed creature.
