From Nature’s Perspective

Chamerion or Epilbium angustifolium (fireweed, willowherb, wickup)
The fireweeds are back.
They don’t ask permission.
They don’t change their style,
same old fashion year after year.
No jewelry, cosmetics, tattoos or piercing.
They just stand there
sway gently
and sing beauty.
They don’t charge for their services
to many insects
animals
humans
and the soil itself.
They just give.
Compared to the human takers
polluters
contaminators
destroyers
poisoners
torturers
killers
and talk-talk-talkers
these lowly, simple,
beauty-spreading
nourishing
helpful
generous
humble plants
should be called
Great Saint Fireweeds.
