Plato’s Digital Cave

The wide-eyed, non-talking heads stare through the glass, proud of the color and shape of their hair. What goes on behind them, stays behind them. Thirteen heads. The bodiless figures need no supper. The last view?
Two of the heads outside the mainframe whisper.
Ms. Orwell, “Democracy is conformity.”
Ms. Huxley, “There will be no new world, and besides it wouldn’t be brave anyway.”
No head looks up, not for sunshine nor when rain smatters the glass.
