Love Is a Living Thing
Love is a living thing
greater than the confusion of the sun,
the holiness of the wind’s secrets,
the mercy of the rain
or the wealth of the earth’s memories.
It’s not a poem
– no kisses on a fist
– no claws on a smile.
It cannot be tamed by desire
or caged with intensity.
It serves the needs of life
pulling and pulling and pulling
every particle
together.
It grows with every repetition of sweetness
every twist of smooth,
every hint of harmony.
Love is the truth of wonder
the justice of truth
the beauty of justice
the victory of beauty.
Love is a living thing
the soul of life
the heart of the soul –
a living thing
a force
driving the adventure of life.
