It’s not that we live in a world without love,
but in a world where the love of money rules.
The money lovers decide.
What’s good for profit profits.
What’s good for life and people
finds no sympathy, no encouragement.
The love of money
—the blood of evil—
runs through the veins of commerce
bullying culture to dance in decadence
to the music of loud nothings throbbing without context.

fuels the machines of politics
and the institutions of power
grinding simple dreams into pills of illusion,
redecorating honorable words into gaudy slogans.
We live in a world where the love of money rules.
Its empire reaches all 360 angles of the earth
and imagines
(as all empires have always imagined)
that this particular empire
is exceptional,
and will not meet the destiny of empires.
Possessed by the love of money
and blinded by money’s glow
it cannot see that life and love
are preparing another show.
