20 children killed in the USA produces kilometers of print and days of commentary.
1 girl raped and killed in India causes floods of texts and verbal rivers to flow through the public discourse.
200 children slaughtered in Pakistan gets barely noticed.
What’s the difference? The victims are no less innocent. The parents of the victims are no less devastated.
The 200 children were killed by the USA war machine. It’s neither polite or opportune to mention this. No journalist is going to make a career or even keep their job by reporting about the weekly drone murders. No blogger is going to win awards or be “freshly pressed” by dealing with these crimes.
There is another difference. The 20 children and the 1 girl incidents are over. The 4-5 children blasted to bits by hellfire missiles every week will continue. So let’s not talk about it. We don’t want to disturb an ongoing process. Or run the risk of not getting ”liked”.

Passion is a child of survival.
It smolders under the ice of despair
waiting for the light of love
to warm the winds of desire
and set it ablaze.
A single moment of love and passion
can fill the future with promise.

Spiders have been around for over 300 million years and have developed over 40 000 species.
Homo sapiens have been around, as a single species, for less than 200 000 years.
Spiders shit protein silk.
Homo sapiens don’t give a shit.

Miners used to bring a canary into the mine to warn of gas. If the canary rolled over (a relatively small quantity of gas would do it), the miners knew there was danger and hurried out of the mine.
Diabetes I can be viewed as the canary in the body of humanity.
Diabetes I, aka child diabetes, is presently increasing by 3% a year in the world and is estimated to double in a few years. Diabetes I knocks out the ability of the pancreas to produce insulin. It strikes healthy children and has nothing to do with diet. Although the cause is unknown, some environmental factor seems to be the culprit.
Insulin is one of the oldest, most basic and smallest of the proteins produced by the body. It regulates the intake of energy to the cell. It doesn’t get more basic than that. Without synthetic insulin injections, several times daily forever, death occurs within a week.
We, humanity, have created conditions that destroys the ability for some children to produce insulin. This infliction strikes more and more children throughout the world every year. It is also moving upward in age; even adults are falling victim to diabetes I.
________
Ultasium: What are the Homo sapiens doing about this?
Gid: Researchers are trying to find a cure. The families dealing with diabetes try to support one another. The general public is kept out of the discussion.
Ultasium: That doesn’t seem very sapient.
Gid: They have the ability to be sapient, but the people in control keep them uninformed.
Ultasium: Why do they do that?
Gid: To stay in control.

Are we on our way to the future
or is the future on its way to us?
Are we agents of change
or are we the subjects of change?
Do we trust our roots to lead us to clarity
or do we trust the fog of official promises?
I hear the echo of my heart on a distant shore
and know that the light will guide me
to the port of peace and love.
