Listen to Captain Kate, Big Mouth!
Adolf Hitler praises, in Mein Kampf, the British intellectuals and hotly criticizes his own party brothers. He points out that the British can write so that the people understand them, whereas the Nazi intellectuals seem to be writing for each other. Their long explanations, pompous style and frequent use of infrequent words go over the heads of ordinary people. Remind you of any intellectual you’ve read? See: Hitler Unfortunately.
Although we have many excellent progressive intellectuals, most of them, regardless of their style, lack a plan to oppose the empire. Like the frustrated generals during WWI they send their troops out of the trenches to charge the enemy again and again with demonstrations. No shower of bullets meet the demonstrators, but the results amount to a dead end, a waste of time and resources. Again and again. We are also encouraged to get involved in the election circus even though we’ve been fucked by the political process again and again. Shouldn’t we realize by now that we can’t vote for love from prostitutes working for lobbying pimps. “Speak truth to power”? Power doesn’t listen to truth. It has greed tinnitus and hears nothing but the roar of profits.
Also characteristic of many pundits (unlike the intellectuals who mine information), they react to events and actions that occur, often caused by the rulers of the empire. They are not proactive. They take no initiative because they have no strategy. They are fighting a war with only defensive capabilities, no offensive ones. When I encounter these people and suggest doing something, they reject it arrogantly and contemptibly. If it’s not a major battle, a big deal, a media eye-catcher, they want no part of it.
I challenge these keyboard generals with their big-word weapons and elaborated code style of writing (sociolinguistics) to find fault with the gorgeous Captain Kate’s Waterwork campaign. I would also like to hear other suggestions to promote the struggle for peace, justice, truth, solidarity, sustainability, beauty, love … and humanity.
