This is the way the media speaks of the earth on fire,
the unprecedented fires in different parts of the world.
Politicians, experts and pundits
babble and bubble about blatant banalities
the same blatant banalities
on how to deal with the fires
how to deal with future fires
how to cooperate in dealing with the fires
how to prepare…
babble and bubble with the weight of feathers.
No one mentions environmental fever,
not even with the euphemistic ”global warming.”
Like discussing the bubbles and feathers
in the picture above
without ever mentioning the dead bird.
Can you see the dead bird?
Can you see the intellectually dead
politicians, experts and pundits?
Of course not,
no more than you can see the gases
causing the temperature to indicate fever.
Can you see the dead-feather thoughts of citizens
expecting the authorities to do something
about the problems
the authorities are responsible for?
Can you even imagine any one authority
suggesting (ever so feather-lightly)
cutting down on playful and entertaining
emissions from combustion engines.
Nero fiddled while Rome burned.
Waterscooters and motor-racing roar
while the earth burns.
Humanity is racing toward extinction
while we discuss the fires lighting the way.

Oh, bubble it!
The whole of humanity weighs but a feather
in the perspective of life on earth.
