Insulted Life

It seems we’ve been given the gift of life
to shop
and bring things to our nest
wrapped in plastic
contained in plastic
and made of plastic
so that we can contaminate
rivers, lakes, oceans
and our blood
making it ever easier for viruses
to navigate through our vessels
while our defenses
trip and stumble.
Modern viruses are so powerful
they can even capture spotlights
otherwise locked on a junk clown
dancing center-stage
of a plastic empire.
Life works in not so mysterious ways
to repay insults
to her gifts.
