All that Twitters is not Told

Structural censorship

Twitter means: jabber, yap, prattle, talk someone’s ear off; or, to quote Shakespeare, “sound and fury signifying nothing.”

“All that glitters is not gold.” is the remaining second part of a Middle Age saying. The first part was, “The Devil hides behind the cross.” (The corrupt clergy holding a crucifix.) Today we could say, “The tyrant hides behind the flag. Unauthorized speech wears a gag.”

Structural censorship goes deeper. Truth doesn’t surface; no need of censorship. This can be illustrated by asking, What is a Homo sapiens?

The OneLook.com site: The only surviving hominid; species to which modern man belongs; bipedal primate having language and ability to make and use complex tools; brain 1400 cc.”

This definition and those of 29 dictionaries accessible at OneLook.com fail to mention one of the most defining characteristics of Homo sapiens. They are social.

Homo sapiens are society-building creatures with extraordinary dynamic sociality. They are capable of forming and dissolving group configurations of varied size, type and duration. They get together at different jobs, cultural activities and political enterprises. Two can get together to make a baby or meet at a divorce court. Dozens can gather at pubs, parties and meetings. Thousands can assemble at sports events, concerts and demonstrations. Millions can coordinate their efforts in national endeavors. They socialize with such ease that they are practically blind to the sophistication and dynamics of their social skills. The frontal lobe of their brains is wired to manage their extraordinary sociality, which therefore appears as natural to them as walking, talking or kissing.

Homo sapiens form and dissolve social configurations daily. Each group interacts through norms and requirements on multiple levels. The social stage cues them to the words and actions to match the people they interact with at home, school, job, bank, pub, party, bus, match, shop, beach, restaurant, etc.

Homo sapiens are social creatures. Their spectacular dynamic sociality defines them as surely as their feet, language and technology. Why is sociality not mentioned when defining Homo sapiens? Ants are defined as social.

Lexicographers aren’t incompetent, but victims of structural censorship. The victors in the struggled for wealth and power control the perspective of prestigious administrators, privileged researchers, and controlled citizens. The sociality of Homo sapiens is an embarrassing truth in a world where a handful of wealthy individuals dictate the conditions for millions. Describing the communal orientation of Homo sapiens’ sheds light on their spirit of cooperation, and their need of social interaction. It exposes the anti-Homo sapiens policies of money-oriented rulers who isolate healthy people and school children. Children’s development requires learning the skills of sociality, and their bodies are dependent on experiencing sicknesses to learn how to deal with them.

Why is sociality not mentioned when defining Homo sapiens? Because the tyrant hides behind the flag. Unauthorized definitions are not allowed out of the bag. The money-oriented policies of the prevailing order must not be disturbed by the needs of Homo sapiens.
