Technological Wonders & Economic Cancer

Hearingaid5_7047
It takes tens and hundreds of thousands of years to evolve new abilities: sharper teeth, stronger claws or longer horns. With a few blows of a stone against a stone a hominid smashed through the conditions of evolution and a created a knife that could outperform teeth, claws or horns.

Humans don’t need to evolve their bodies or skin to adapt to different environments or changing climate. They make clothes that can protect them from sun, wind, rain and frost. They don’t have to wait a million years to evolve feet adapted to different types of terrain. They have footwear to climb mountains, tread through snow, hike across a desert or glide down a catwalk.

They have glasses to overcome the shortcomings of their eyes and filter sunlight. They have telescopes that can see to the end of the universe and microscopes that can see the elements of life. Aided by cameras and screens they can look in on anyone or watch whatever is happening anywhere in the world.

We are technologically enhanced biological forms and evolve our technology to perform ever greater wonders. Unfortunately, we are socially diseased with economic cancer and will probably die out before we can learn to live with the conditions of nature.

Technology Week

RainbowStraight_1412
18 years ago today a computer defeated the world master in chess.

Technology is;
* the manipulation of natural resources into forms that serve human purposes; the breaking up, combining and reshaping of material into tools and instruments to help, extend and enhance human abilities and promote human potential.
* resources of the earth created by and impregnated with human energy.
* the material culture of Homo sapiens.
* an extension of the human existence, an interface with the world.
* everything man-made.

There is primitive technology, stone technology, mechanical technology, electronic technology, innovational technology and other forms of technology.

We are technological beings. We have never existed without technology* and would quickly disappear without it.
*(Stone technology began among hominids more than 2 million years before the appearance of Homo sapiens.)

Junk technology, like junk food, hardens the arteries of human interaction.

Welcome to Technology Week!

One (Silly) Reflecting Question

IceMarch2_7012
One of the major causes of environmental fever stems from melted ice. Ice reflects the sun and heat off the earth. With the ice gone the water and land absorb the heat of the sun. And more ice melts.

Question: If the loss of reflecting surfaces aggravates environmental fever, why not provide all top surfaces with reflecting material? Painting the rooftops of the world white would supply considerable reflective power. Couldn’t the roads and highways be made reflective?

Maybe making top surfaces reflective is a silly idea. Maybe? Or maybe it’s a good idea but the rulers are so busy thinking about making money, they don’t have time to think about bringing the fever down. Maybe?

I can’t help reflecting about it.

Avoiding Sick Words

Vulik_2882

Global warming means environmental fever.
Speaking of fever gives the impression that we’re sick.
We don’t want to do that, do we?

A Taste of Misinformation Truth

Bemaa7_6804
Misinformation washes over us daily. Everywhere. We can’t avoid it. We’re drowning in it.
(If we weren’t so saturated with misinformation I could say that it is killing millions of us and threatening all of us, but I won’t because, although it’s true, our misinformed minds reject such information.)

Let us look at one drop of misinformation truth in the storm beating down on us. One drop.

A fast food chain bold-prints the slogan Taste is King under a seductive picture of a (chicken) nugget burger. Although it is true that Taste is king it is also true (but missing in the misinformation) that Profit is the Queen and Health is a Pawn, an expendable one.

Ads for the chemically laced, industrially produced tasty junk of the fast-food corporations should contain (in bold-print):
Danger! This food will damage your health.
Such information is as relevant as the warning labels on cigarettes. Besides the difficult-to-document ailments arising from the cocktail of chemicals in these ”meals”, many more people suffer and die of obesity related sicknesses than of lung diseases. Obesity, promoted by junk food, has exploded to a worldwide epidemic in a little over one generation.

Remember, the ”Taste is King” slogan is but one drop in a storm of misinformation. If the storm had a name it could be Hurricane Mammon.

Obvious Mysteries

Pavok7_6688
This looks arranged, but it’s not. We were eating avocados, pears, cheese and crackers when I noticed Pavok on top of the heep in the scrap bowl. I removed him gently, placed him by himself and got my camera. Voila!

The Satan, Devil, Demon Team (SDD Team)

Binohah_6778
How does the devil work? The original meaning of devil, derived from the ancient word ”diaballein”, meant an accuser, a slanderer. The devil threw (ballein = to throw), untrue words instead of spears.

Satan meant someone who plots against you, an enemy who plans attacks.

A Demon was a divider, someone causing conflict, dissension.

To find the today’s SDD team we should look for a group that aims (Satan) to cause conflicts (Demon) using disinformation (Devil).
Any ideas?

The Results of Generations

Sappilla2_6758

We’ve come from the depths of thousands of generations.
Each ancestor has watered the earth with sweat and tears,
stimulated the breeze with laughter,
offered blood and embraced passion
for our lives.
They have nourished dreams and tamed fears for us.
We are the result of pure needs and innocent ambitions.
We have now arrived.
To consume?
