Fall, On the Way to Cold Darkness

Poem and picture from the book, Natures Jinns by Joel Miller
When winter approaches breathing frost
the trees dress up in warm colors
to entice the wind
to ask the leaves
up for a dance.
After the wildest storm
one leaf remains
alone.
One morning
when heaven holds its breath
the leaf gets hit
by the blush of dawn
and falls slowly to the earth
where it lies listening
to the sleeping forest
pregnant with spring.
