To call it a civil war is a gross mischaracterization. The entire conflict was engineered and fueled from beyond Syria’s borders. … the principle agents driving the conflict are foreigners. They include special interests in the United States … and regional players including Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Israel.
Calling it a civil war is a gross mischaracterization, but so is calling it a conflict. It’s war of aggression. 100s of 1000s of deaths, giga destruction and a tsunami of refugees cannot be confined within a ”conflict”.
Note ”the principle agents driving the conflict”. How bad can IS be compared to this nightmare team of tyrants?
War is the deadliest and most destructive enterprise conducted by humans. It requires enormous resources and energy. The positive side of this worse of all possible endeavors is that right and wrong dance before our eyes. The difference between good and bad stand out with blood splattered clarity.
The war in Syria is also a history lesson in real time.

This article was also printed in Common Dreams and ICH despite its rather anemic analysis lacking all references to economic aspects in general and devoid of people in particular. The above quote comes at the beginning of the rather long article dealing with the different phases of US power plays in the Middle East.
What is the USA “position (that is eroding) in the Greater Middle East?” As the article doesn’t mention it, I assume that I’m making a fool of myself asking an obvious question, but what is the USA position in the “Greater” Middle East?

In 1952 Chester M. Southam, a researcher for the Sloan-Kettering Institute, injected Ohio State Prison inmates with live cancer cells. The prisoners weren’t told. Neither were the 300 women at the Sloan-Kettering Institute where other doctors performed their research.

And the Sloan-Kettering Institute, now called Memeorial Sloan Kettering, is rated as the #1 cancer hospital in the USA. Charity Watch gives it its highest rating, an A. Perhaps it’s worth mentioning that the heads of Charity Watch are salaried at $2 million/year. It’s the American Way. Business as usual.
BTW: Cutting someone’s head off (quick and practically painless death) is an act of saintly kindness compared to injecting someone with cancer.

If Obama has any sense, he will dismiss from his government the neoconservative morons who have squandered Washington’s power, and he will focus instead on holding on to Europe by working with Russia to destroy, rather than to sponsor, the terrorism in the Middle East that is overwhelming Europe with refugees.

The tides of refugees come from destroyed lives, homes and circumstances caused by terror raining down from planes, helicopters and drones, as well as from similar destruction on the ground also caused by conflicting forces. Alluding to those who choose to stay and fight as the cause of the migration exceeds the limits of reason.
Why does Putin want the biggest terrorist in the Middle East on his anti-terrorism posse? This comes directly after telling the people of Ukraine that Russia would not get involved and will not be providing any support. Why no help in Ukraine but total steel and fire in the Middle East (Iraq and Syria)? With Terrorist Sam on the posse.
A conspiracy theorist would be sniffing black flags all over the place.
A normal person would smell that something ain’t what it seems.
BTW Mr. R, when did you start believing that Obama has any say in the matter? Surely you know how the government works and who it works for. The US government initiated a war based on lies and killed over one million Iraqis, injured many more, created at least four million refugees and completely destroyed Iraq. Everything.
Shops, schools, power plants, water supplies, sewerage, mosques, hospitals, electricity, social networks, homes, museums, orchards, weddings, … You name it, they destroyed it.
When survivors of the Shock-and-Awe destruction organized a resistance and took back sections of their country, we hear that they are monsters. The invaders, destroyers, murderers and occupiers tell us that the natives of the country are monsters. This has always been the language of Pharaohs, Kings, Emperors and now CEOs.
The invaders, destroyers, murderers and occupiers don’t tell us that the monsters are Sunni Iraqis. Sunni represents at least 90% of all Muslims.
The invaders, destroyers, murderers and occupiers are telling us that the survivors among the people who were murdered are monsters. Do you see anything wrong with this picture?
The “artists” who paint the native resistance fighters in horrible colors want us to believe that it would be perfectly alright to bomb the areas, along with the people living there, to kill as many monsters as possible. We have to kill Iraqis to save Iraq.

Positive politicians pop up all over the place. Include the Pope in that lot. This can be called Obamatics. He should be given credit for perfecting the technique whereby you:
Express their grievances.
Tell them that you feel their pain.
Show empathy.
Make promises.
Do nothing.
The people are so desperate for leadership that they’ll see the same show over and over again expecting it to end differently. Up comes a popular candidate making concrete promises to correct obvious wrongs. He gets elected. Nothing happens.
