On this very day in 1954 President Eisenhower authorized an additional $385 million for military aid to the French forces fighting in Vietnam.
Three months later, after getting their asses kicked at Dien Bien Phu, the French gave up. They would leave Indokina and Vietnam would be temporarily divided until general elections could be held two years later. The US couldn’t allow this because ”the wrong side” under Ho Chi Minh was certain to win by a landslide. No elections were held and the US kept sending more and more ”advisors”.
The hostilities grew constantly and Kennedy tried to stop the escalation into a full-scale war. They stopped Kennedy. Ten years, 3 million Vietnamese and 58,000 Americans later the US experienced the limitations of their extensive military power when confronted by a united and determined people.
What has all this to do with a polar bear sleeping in a tree? Nothing. Just like the 58,000 Americans who were sent to die while killing 3,000,000 Vietnamese.

What is more evil:
1- burning 1 man to death or injecting 1000s of people with deadly cancer?
2- chopping off 1 person’s head or deforming 100s of new born babies so badly that some die immediately but none will survive a year?
3- killing 10 people while blowing yourself up or ordering the deaths of 2000 people while throwing smiles of freedom and democracy at cameras?
Questions 1 and 2 refer to the use of DU-weapons which contaminate the environment with radioactive particles. Exposure typically causes neurological and reproductive damage beside leukemia.
DU stands for depleted uranium. The UN has declared DU-weapons to be illegal and classifies them as weapons of mass destruction. This is denied by the US, Israel, France and England, countries that happen to produce and/or use these weapons. These countries also deny the effects of DU-weapons. It’s just a coincidence that the people of Fallujah have ”the highest rate of genetic damage in any population ever studied” and that Iraq is now the leukemia capital of the world. It must also be a coincidence that US soldiers who were in combat areas where DU-weapons were used are twice as likely to have deformed children as compared to control groups.
Question 3 refers to the people killed (so far) by hellfire missiles launched from drones in Pakistan, Sudan, Yemen and Somalia.
4- How come the head-choppers, people-burners and suicide bombers who kill a few people are designated as monsters while the mass-murderers, mass-destroyers and causers of incalculable suffering are designated as freedom-loving good-guys?

Sat. rerun from 2012-08-12
Damaged and scarred he wanders away from his tribe.
He didn’t cry when they flashed the colors,
and didn’t bow to conventional sentiments
or sentimental conventions.
He questioned official answers,
showed no obedience to petrified traditions,
felt no reverence for titles
and didn’t worship the accumulation of glitter.
He didn’t conform to glossy advise on how to be
and displayed no fear of being who he was.
He heard the drums of a distant truth
beating to a rhythm that matched his pulse.
He heard the song of many colors singing in different harmonies.
He longed for soft words speaking hard questions
calmly determined to respect knowledge in the service of justice.
He follows a vision of walking down strange streets in strange places
meeting familiar smiles eager to cool his burning curiosity.
He wanders. He wanders in search of a greater tribe.

We constantly hear critical voices condemning the pointless or meaningless wars of the USA. Yet there is no such thing as a pointless or meaningless war. War is, and always has been, started as an enterprise of conquest. Always! History owns not a single exception. The wars fought against the aggression are something else.
Of course those who start a war—the enterprise of conquest—first bombard their subjects with lies and claims of noble and necessary causes. Believing this nonsense borders on the criminal. Psyops however spray perfumed jingoism on this garbage and sell it as a product worth killing and dying for.
The flip side of criticizing the pointless wars voices criticism of the lack of results. ”We” have achieved nothing. Not in Iraq, not Afghanistan, not Libya, Syria … ”We” have only created more enemies, more terrorists, more conflicts, more bombings …
This ”we” doesn’t seem to include a glaring exception. Some people, an extreme minority of the people, have done extremely well during these pointless and resultless wars. They have conquered more and more wealth.
Could there be a connection between the people who start the wars and the conquest of more and more wealth? Perhaps these wars are not so meaningless and unsuccessful as claimed. For some people.

You can’t fight a war following the rules of the enemy.
You can’t win a war not knowing the enemy.
A war is raging and most of us live in occupied territory.
In the tribe of humanity the leaders are those who promote the welfare of people,
support the struggle for justice
and respect the conditions of life.
This places them in conflict with rulers posing as leaders.

A banana whale must swim 7800 km to get from Washington to Kiev.
It needs swim 760 km to get from Moscow to Kiev.
You may never have seen a banana whale.
They’re rare.
But not so rare as a Washington truth.

We need more surveillance
more cameras
more listening to mobile conversations
more control of emails, texting, tweets, facebook, Instagram
more following of net behavior
more checking credit card usage
We want to know everything
What they do, when, how and with who.
The politicians are our representitives aren’t they?
We want to know how they are representing us.
If they don’t like the surveilance,
they can quit and get an honest job.
